Visit Tirol Castle
The old walls of the picturesque castle provide proof of its centuries old history. Located amidst orchards and vineyards, the castle is surrounded by idyllic mountain scenery. The former main seat of the Earls of Tyrol used to be the political administrative headquarters up to the 15th century.
Now, the castle hosts the South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History, where Tyrolean history is explained with many artefacts. Enjoy the historic flair in the castle courtyard and admire the Roman portal in the chapel, one of the many pieces of art within the castle.
In close proximity to the castle, there is a falconry with bird care centre for injured wild birds. During a round tour you will find out interesting things about the bird fauna, and during the bird flight shows you can experience birds of prey and owls from close up.
During the course of the year, Tirol Castle often plays venue to festivals, exhibitions and musical events. Following a little foretaste:
Specialised national and international ensembles present musical arts from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Early Baroque (different dates in June & July)
Christmas concerts, crib exhibition and traditional handcrafts in the courtyard of the Castle (8.12 to 11.12. - 11 am - 8 pm)
